How to grow your Facebook Business Page

April 17, 2012 By Nancy McNulty 4 Comments

How do I grow the “likes” on my Facebook business page?

If I had a dime for every time I get asked this question……well, I’d have enough money to buy lunch, anyway. As Facebook business pages mature, and marketers are getting more savvy at building up followers, there are some shinning examples rising to the top. The most dramatic local example which made national news is of a Goodlettesville, Tennessee chiropractor and the Mega Millions Lottery Jackpot.

I was browsing Facebook one day when I came across a “shared” post by one of my friends who lives in Nashville. The post said, “I am already winning” and included a shared photo of a lottery ticket from Goodlettesville Chiropractor. I am winning lottery ticket by Goodlettesville Chiropractor

I didn’t initially think anything of it since that was the day of the Mega Millions drawing for the $640 million jackpot and lots of people were posting about their winning numbers. It wasn’t until I scrolled down my Facebook news feed and saw several of my out-of-town friends had also shared the same photo from our local chiropractor with the post “I am already winning” that I really got curious, and JEALOUS. Jealous because, once I clicked through to the chiropractor’s page I realized I was witnessing one of the most clever Facebook campaigns I had ever seen and I wished I would have thought of it.

This chiropractor bought a lottery ticket and posted a picture of it on his page with the following instructions, “Share this photo on your page with the caption, ‘I am already winning’, and I will split the winning ticket with you”. According to this write-up in the Nashville Business Journal, the photo was posted around 6pm on March 29th and by lunch time on March 30th had 18,758 shares and 13,585 new likes on his Facebook page. It seems the final results were up around 90,000 likes, but Facebook intervened and removed thousands of the “shares” and “posts”. It may have violated some type of Facebook guidelines, although I don’t know which ones. When you have a page grow that fast, it is bound to get Facebook’s attention. How to grow your facebook likes by Forest Home Media and Goodlettsville Chiropractor

According to the Goodlettsville Chiropractor Facebook page, the current tally of fans is 25,168. Goodlettsville Chiropractor Facebook PageDid I mention that he started with 28 fans? I’d call that a successful campaign.

Well, now how about a couple of ideas you can implement to grow your own Facebook Fan Page? If you are purchasing advertising with local TV, radio, or print it’s probably correct to assume that they are directing their viewers, listeners or readers to “like” their Facebook pages. Most of these media outlets have tens of thousands of “likes”on their pages. The really smart media outlets are starting to put together promotions to leverage these thousands of likes and make them available to their advertisers. We just ran a contest with WTVF- News Channel 5 and one of our clients where we gave away an iPad. News Channel 5 promoted the giveaway during their 3 news casts directing viewers to their Facebook Page to enter to win. Once viewers entered their contest, they were directed to our client’s Facebook page for a chance to win another iPad. Facebook iPad giveaway with Forest Home MediaThis one day contest resulted in over 5200 new “likes” for our client. We did have to pay for the promotion, but it was well worth the investment to the client to have that kind of explosive growth for their Facebook pages. It’s not often in your marketing career that you get to see an increase in “weekly total reach” like this in just one day. Facebook insights with 152,000 % increase by Forest Home Media

A third option for growing your Facebook fan base is to run Facebook ads. You can set your maximum daily budget and narrow your target audience very specifically. We recently helped a client grow their “likes” by 1000 people over a weekend with a VERY specific target group and they only spent $100. This is a great option for most small business owners who do not have deep marketing budgets.

If you need help growing your Facebook “likes” we would love to talk to you. If you are Dr. Lee Bullington of Goodlettsville Chiropractic and you need PR representation with your new found Facebook fame, we’d love to talk to you too. You can contact us HERE.

Facebook Timeline: Embrace The Change!

April 13, 2012 By Nancy McNulty 1 Comment

From friends trying to reactivate MySpace accounts to my college daughter making desperate Hunger Games analogies, there is a whole lot of Facebook unhappiness out there over the new timeline format. Relax and take a deep breath. With a little more info, this is going to be a great opportunity for everyone.

For business pages, the change presents exciting avenues in social media marketing for creating a strong, creative visual presence. While Facebook is very clear about not wanting a business to use the cover photo for promos, coupons or advertisements, you can create a good visual image of your company or event.

Before you get started, let’s go over a few of the don’ts according to the Facebook Help Center.

-Cover images must be at least 399 pixels wide and may NOT contain:

-Price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download it at our website”

-Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s About section

-References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features

-Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”

Currently, Forest Home Media is working on several complicated and amazing projects including the May 2012 Charity Tour of Homes. Featuring the latest in innovative home design and building, this is a multi-site event with two benefiting charities and one important presenting sponsor of the premier home tour taking place two three-day weekends in May. Does that sound like enough of a communications challenge?

In attempt to create an interesting timeline photo for the Charity Tour of Homes, I found this great tutorial on Picasa and creating the timeline photo which made it a very easy endeavor.

Here’s the result of my effort:

Picassa is a great way to capture multiple elements into one Facebook timeline shot.

It was a little challenging representing with one unique timeline image of the event, tour sponsor Pella Windows & Doors,  and the benefiting charities, Students Taking A Right Stand (STARS) and Miriam’s Promise. With the collage type approach, we were able to present this in a visually interesting way while reminding folks of the impending date.

Finally, if you feel the need to dig even deeper into Facebook changes, we recommend the Social Media Examiner  as a great resource. Check out their recent post on 5 Ways To Enhance Your Facebook Timeline. If you need help creating a social media strategy, contact Forest Home Media here.

Good luck and embrace the change!

Google + Why you should be there in a big way

March 5, 2012 By Nancy McNulty 1 Comment

The new social network from Google, Google + created quite a stir in the media following its launch last July. All the experts in Search Engine Optimization are heralding Google + as the future of social networks. In fact, actively engaging on Google + can offer a sure fire way to help your website and blog content get indexed and validated with the world’s largest search engine, Google. So, what exactly is Google +? Check out this video.

If you think you have all of your bases covered with Facebook and Twitter you might be surprised to learn some of the benefits  of active engagement on Google +: (summarized from our guest post on Fauxology)

  • Google bots are constantly navigating posts on Google + looking for relevant content to serve up to its Search Engine.
  • Google is not indexing “Tweets”, “LinkedIn” posts or “Facebook” status updates. Google IS indexing public posts on Google +.
  • Social signals are already influencing Google’s search results. It is predicted that in the future of SEO, social connections might be more important than gathering links.
  • Pages and blog posts shared on Google + are crawled and indexed by Google’s search engine very quickly (under an hour in most cases) This could take months to happen otherwise.
  • Adding a +1 button on your website or blog gives people an opportunity to VOTE for your content with Google showcasing your validity and relevancy.
  • Setting up and saving customized searches for your business name and keywords on Google + offer excellent “listening” tools for your business, category and industry.

Google + offers you the vehicle and the technology but it is up to you to tell your unique story in a way that is engaging and interesting.  Just like any other social network, Google + is a relationship building tool. People do business with people they know and trust. Invest the  time to listen, comment, get to know people and share. It will provide huge rewards. Ready to start? Marketing Fusion – Forest Home Media

January 21, 2012 By Nancy McNulty Leave a Comment

In the food industry, the fusion movement represents the fascinating blend of two or more distinct food disciplines into a tasty result. At Forest Home Media, we’ve thoughtfully considered why it is important to create an integrated marketing company to yield extraordinary results for our clients. After practicing the art of leveraging multiple resources for successful communications campaigns, Forest Home Media is taking this to a new art form with marketing fusion.

Forest Home Media LogoAfter researching a client’s successes, challenges, competition and future goals, the partners of Forest Home Media craft an integrated marketing campaign fusing together the best elements of various communication options. For some clients, this will take on the complexion of traditional advertising with email marketing and developing a strong social media presence. For others, launching a results-oriented website with direct mail advertising is a first step. There isn’t an exact diagnosis which can be applied across the board to each company or organization and that is why customization is important.

Great marketing fusion is achieved when a variety of communication sources are tapped to convey the essence of the message. For example, when launching the fall 2011 Southern Living Showcase Home in Dorset Park, newspaper, magazine, radio, television and a strong online presence helped re-introduce this popular concept into the Nashville market. Built by Castle Homes, a Southern Living product had not been seen in over a decade, and, it was important to define exactly what kind of home building and design inspiration would be discovered by visitors.

Southern Living Showcase Home Nashville TN

There were tons of communication “firsts” for this event including hosting a preview for the Nashville Social Media Club with Nashville Women Who Blog invited as well. This resulted in numerous blog posts, Facebook check-ins and Twitter activity during the event. And, we allowed this creative group to choose the winner of our “Ultimate Southern Cookie Contest.”

Southern Living Showcase Home builder Alan Looney, president of Castle Homes, presented Mary Carter the newly released KitchenAid 7-quarter Mixer for winning the Ultimate Southern Cookie Contest. With around 7,000 overall tour visitors, Castle Homes was committed to seeking creative avenues in marketing this premier home event with a powerful fusion of communication sources.

At the end of the day, make sure any campaign you are using takes into consideration where your target audience is accessing their information and be there and be engaging. We’d be glad to help to you here!
