Email Marketing with MailChimp

July 17, 2012 By Nancy McNulty Leave a Comment

Email marketing may well be the most effective, lowest cost marketing tool available to business owners today. Are you taking advantage of this free resource? If you are building your email list correctly, you have created an email sign up form on your blog, website, and other platforms you have established across the web. Copyblogger, our go to source for best practices in content marketing has some great tips for building your email marketing list. People who sign up for your list are asking for more information about your company, they are giving you permission to market to them. These are people who want to stay in touch with your company.

The email platform we recommend to our clients is a free service through MailChimp.

MailChimp
Forest Home Media clients use MailChimp for their email marketing.

MailChimp is a user-friendly email platform built for business owners and not for computer programmers. From the first time you log in to create your account you will see that MailChimp will easily guide you through the steps of creating and managing your own mail campaigns.

They have beautiful designer templates that can be customized with your logo, photos and links to your website or blog.

MailChimp has beautiful designer templates ready for customization.

You can literally drag and drop your photos right into the template. They offer easy to read reporting that will track opens and click-through rates. And it is all free until your reach 2000 email subscribers. Then you can easily switch to one of their very competitively priced plans.

We recently used MailChimp to send out invitations to our Forest Home Media Launch party. We were able to introduce our list subscribers to some of our services, feature some of our recent projects, and include the launch party invitation details with a link to RSVP right from the email.

How To Get Event Media Coverage

July 11, 2012 By Nancy McNulty Leave a Comment

Continuing a Behind The Scenes look at our Forest Home Media Launch Party project, after developing a launch event objective and plan, partner Dana Tucker and I decided ,in addition to networking with key community leaders, we also wanted to invite targeted media for possible event coverage.  We have a solid network of area writers who were invited to simply enjoy the party but there is also a talented group of writers/photographers who cover events throughout the community we wanted to engage.

One of the services of Forest Home Media is media relations and coordination.  In order to secure this party coverage, a photographer’s request was made as far in advance of the event as possible.  I prefer to give this busy group as much notice as possible from two months to six weeks in advance.  This gives you the opportunity to get on the reporter’s calendar for coverage consideration and then follow up two weeks, one week and 48 hours prior to the event depending upon the email interaction with the reporter.  Here is an example of our photographer’s request.

Be concise, organized and informative in an event photographer's request.

Many media outlets are very specific about the kinds of coverage available based on whether or not the event is a benefit, business event or takes place in a certain geographical location.  You have to know how these media outlets cover events and then respectfully request coverage with this knowledge.

In addition, because there is sadly a diminishing amount of reporters available, it is acceptable to make photos available to outlets who are able to cover the event.  You need to know in advance the requirements for their submissions.  For example, the Green Hills News publication is very specific in the groupings of people in photos as well as requesting names left to right in order of appearance.  We did not request coverage from them on this particular event because it takes place outside the coverage area and neither of the key players reside in Green Hills.

Event reporters will take into consideration coverage outside of their geographical area if you make it clear that people from their coverage area are involved.  For example, the Tennessean‘s Williamson County reporter will consider covering a non-Williamson County location if there will be a large amount of Williamson County people in key roles for the project and it impacts the community.

At the end of the day, it is important to give enough notice, respectfully request coverage and provide someone onsite during the event. This person should seek out those with cameras to help them group folks for photos and provide written information on the event. And, don’t forget to engage bloggers and Facebook reporters. We define these reporters as community influence leaders who love to attend events and then post and share pictures.

Here are Forest Home Media’s top five tips for earning event coverage:

    1. Request party coverage 4 to 8 weeks in advance.

    2. Be sure in your request to put the event day contact person’s cell phone number as well as the exact address with the zip code for Google directions. Make sure the event contact person has their mobile phone on!

    3. Send reminders the week prior and 48 hours in advance of the event.  Follow up is key. Make a phone call only if you have not heard from the reporter. You don’t won’t to be a bother; however, email is not infallible.

    4. Have a person onsite to help photographers covering the event.  Be sure you take plenty of photos in groups of two and four.

    5. Act as a reporter for your own party coverage.  Request the spellings of names in left to right order and the city in which they live.  After the event is over, you can offer photos to any photographer unable to make an event.  Do NOT submit the same exact photos to the more than one media outlet. And, don’t forget to post on Facebook potentially driving new people to your page.

Pinterest for Party Planning and for Business

June 24, 2012 By Nancy McNulty Leave a Comment

Up next in the “Behind The Scenes: The Official Forest Home Media Launch” is an introduction to how we utilized Pinterest to accomplish multiple goals.

      Forest Home Media Pinterest board
      Forest Home Media Pinterest board.

We love Pinterest for its great visual impact and its almost viral social sharing capabilities. As marketers, data, included in this Forbes article, is now ranking Pinterest as a top source of referral traffic to websites. We have seen this in action with several of our clients in the interior design, painting and home building categories. We have monitored gorgeous images of our clients’ projects seeing them get hundreds of re-pins within a few hours of posting on Pinterest with high percentages of pinners actually clicking through to the original sources of the images – clients’ websites and blogs.

When we were planning our Forest Home Media launch party event, we knew there was no better place to go for inspiration on food and decor than Pinterest. So, we created a FHM Party board and went about the site “pinning” food,

      veggie dippers with ranch
We found these wonderful totable ranch and veggie cups.
      Amazing zesty crock pot chicken
This Zesty Chicken BBQ has become a weekly menu staple

      beverage, decor,

      Burlap and lime flower display
We found this simple DIY vase to display our flowers

and party favor ideas. FHM partner Nancy McNulty wanted to share the inspiring and yummy food ideas via traditional media through a popular food column in Nashville’s daily newspaper, The Tennessean. Talented writer Vicki Stout’s story here shares our use of Pinterest, in my newly decorated kitchen, to find yummy food and decor ideas for our upcoming FHM launch party. This past week, I cooked up some of the yummy party food we found on Pinterest for the Tennessean photo shoot and here’s is how our Pinterest ideas looked.

As an integrated fusion marketing firm, we took each of the recipes we found on Pinterest and added a Forest Home Media “fusion” twist creating an interesting blend with an added kick.  For details of all the recipes. CLICK HERE.

We’ve pinned these images to Pinterest along with the recipes to help create awareness of the Forest Home Media brand and get Pinterest referral traffic back to our site. Categorizing our boards on Pinterest will also help with getting individual boards indexed by Google further building up our Search Engine Results page for Forest Home Media. We are also pinning the images from the online Tennessean  article.

As a marketing company, we have created Pinterest boards for more on topic categories like:

      • Social Media Blogs
      • Photography
      • Books Worth Reading
      • Nashville Bloggers
      • Contest Ideas

So whether you are planning a party, a wedding or launching a new marketing company, Pinterest is a great place to go for visual inspiration and ideas. Stay tuned, our next blog will detail using a free email service, Mail Chimp, in creating our launch party invite.  Want an invite? We’d love to hear from you.

How to create newsworthy content for your new business launch

June 22, 2012 By Nancy McNulty Leave a Comment

Editor’s Note: The original title for this blog post was ” Behind The Scenes: Official Forest Home Media Launch.” However, in order to be SEO (search engine optimization) friendly, the title was strategically revised by FHM SEO expert, Dana Tucker.

After announcing a new Nashville-based integrated marketing firm on March 5,the partners of Forest Home Media are hosting an official launch event which will be chronicled and shared with helpful info via various traditional and new media outlets as part of FHM’s content-based fusion marketing. The series, known informally as “Behind The Scenes: Forest Home Media Launch,” will capture and share various ways the launch event generates informative content from how to engage traditional media to utilizing Pinterest in party ideas and company marketing. You can follow along via blogs, videos, Pinterest boards, Facebook posts, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Tennessean photo shoot for upcoming story on Pinterest fusion fabulous ideas.

It all started with a clever nugget of an idea.  Two marketing professionals, Dana Tucker,  an advertising/digital media guru, and Nancy McNulty, a public relations practitioner/content creation writer, formed the team of Forest Home Media.  With a great name inspired by the historic “hood” in which they live, a new concept in communications, a bevy of great clients and a news release hot off the press – thus began Forest Home Media.

Forest Home Media was launched in March as a new content creation based integrated marketing firm.

As a Nashville-based marketing firm, the FHM partners are fusing the important tenants of communications from public relations and advertising to digitial marketing and social media for their clients through integrated marketing with a foundation of content creation.

With various client projects under their belt, the duo are now taking a moment to officially launch their business using the tenants of content creation fusion marketing.  With a marketing plan in place, all things fusion are going to be highlighted for the event including the yummy menu and decor researched and pinned on Pinterest.

Find Forest Home Media on Pinterest for great marketing ideas as well as creative inspiration with a dash of yummy!

Using the social medium Pinterest, partner Dana Tucker took the lead to find yummy recipes – all things fusion fabulous – and in some cases created her own original pins. Find the boards in progress at Forest Home Media and feel free to suggest ideas to us as well. The next blog post will take a look at using Pinterest from entertaining to business marketing. Don’t Miss Charity Tour of Home Ideas

May 18, 2012 By Nancy McNulty Leave a Comment

From “Applesauce Cake” Porter paint to great outdoor living inspiration, what’s cool, new and classic in new home building, design and renovation is being featured in the 2012 Charity Tour of Homes opening this Friday at gorgeous home sites around the Nashville area.

As a Forest Home Media PR/marketing/advertising project, it has been a fun challenge promoting the seven-site event and various talented members of the elite Master Custom Builders Council of TN.  One of the most common questions I get is “isn’t it depressing working on incredible, perfect homes?? “ My answer is always the same. You’ll find fresh, new, inspiring ideas – both big and small – and you can perfectly apply them to your own life as I have done.  Here are a few of my favorite ideas from the 2012 event. The photos below are identified by the location and the event website, designed with FHM partner Dana Tucker, has a printable directions, addresses and an easy online button to find discounted tickets.

Great outdoor living is the new must-have room in a home. Loved these ideas:

Thompson’s Station features an incredible wood-like porch table really made of metal which fooled me! This was found at wholesale club, Sam’s. (Photo by Forest Home Media)

How about a dog cubby integrated into a summer kitchen. It’s in the far right of this pic and can be found in Stockett Creek near Nashville's Percy Warner Park. (Photo by Forest Home Media)

Love transitioning from the summer pool to a crisp fall night by a fire. The stacked stone fireplace is adjacent to the pool. This home also features a great pergola entry for the backyard in Hendersonville’s Blue Grass Downs neighborhood. (Photo by Fell Merwin)

The element which makes me most happy is an unexpected piece of original art on a porch. Painted by York & Friends artist Jade Reynolds, “Floats Like A Butterfly” is a heavenly gallery-wrapped piece which adds the perfect touch to the sumptuous French Country porch at Gallatin’s beautiful Peninsula of Fairvue Plantation. Kitchens remain the heart of the house at the 2012 Charity Tour of Homes. You’ll see a broad spectrum of granite and quartz-based counters as well as cabinet, appliance and color ideas including Spiced Vinegar walls in the Thompson Station home. These elements caught my eye:

Repeating design elements brings sharp continuity to a home. In Stockett Creek, you’ll find the center island finish is reflected by this adjacent built-in hutch in the eating area - same color, great continuity - and pool overlook! (Photo by Forest Home Media)

There is a lot of traditional design found in the Middle Tennessee area. The Hendersonville Hunt Club home is a fresh and interesting departure. Finally, one of my favorite small details is the trefoil integrated into the wrought iron railing in this Blue Grass Downs/Hendersonville home.

A majority of the ticket price benefits two worthy non-profits, Students Taking A Right Stand and Miriam’s Promise. You can also inquire about building in the 2013 tour and receive great building discounts and savings by participating. A win-win for everyone.
