Step Into Domino Magazine’s Your Guide To A Stylish Home

February 4, 2017 By Nancy McNulty

I’ve got Domino on the mind these days!  After meeting with Domino’s Assistant Digital and Social Editor Alyssa Clough in NYC last October, I’m so pleased to share she’ll be covering the Southeastern House For Hope Designer Show House for client Carbine & Associates!   More on that later but look for some Domino inspired moments around March 3 via Facebook, Instagram and more!

In December, Domino’s uber smart editor Jessica Perez Romm was in town for a book signing at Wilder in the Germantown area of Nashville. (What an interesting, eclectic and beautiful store!)  I was thrilled to meet Jessica and will see her again Feb. 7 for the Southern C Summit in Sea Island, Georgia.  My January column for this online consortium of Southern creatives is a book review of “Domino: Your Guide To A Stylish Home.” In the middle of renovating our master bathroom, circa 1970s!, this book has been a tremendous inspiration.  Check out my Southern C review here.

Tips On Story Pitching And Submissions From Top Editors

September 1, 2016 By Nancy McNulty

In my monthly column for The Southern C, Country Living Editor Rachel Hardage Barrett and StyleBlueprint Co-Founder Liza Graves share some great tips for submitting stories to their publications.

Photos are important in telling a story but have you considered hashtagging or photo tagging a publication in your post on Instagram? Barrett says this is a good way to interact with Country Living’s small but mighty social media team. Try adding #MyCountryLiving. She and Graves both use hashtag searches when looking for interesting content which will resonate with their readers.

#MyCountryLiving, Forest Home Media, Franklin, TN
Currently, over 7,000 photos are found in the Instagram hashtag search of #MyCountryLiving, a smart attempt in gaining the attention of magazine editors!

The follow up is still critical. No, don’t stalk an editor with multiple emails in a short period of time. Graves does suggest staying on an editor’s radar is always helpful and important. And, don’t forget manners and stay away from ALL CAPS emails. Dig into these great tips by visiting my column in The Southern C by clicking HERE. And, be sure you subscribe to the Southern C’s newsletter for tons of great content from a talented community of creatives. Click HERE for my Facebook live interview with Barrett on our Forest Home Media Facebook page and give us a “like” to stay up on the latest!

Southeast Interior Design Tastemakers & Social Media Influencers Selected For House For Hope

March 10, 2016 By Nancy McNulty

Interior design tastemakers and social media influencers from throughout the Southeast have been selected for the Nashville area’s inaugural House for Hope Designer Show House partnering with builder, Carbine & Associates, with a goal of yielding over $100,000 for children’s charities.  Forest Home Media is serving as the project public relations and marketing team.

Builders of the 2013 Traditional Home magazine and the HGTV® Smart Home in Nashville, James Carbine, president of Carbine & Associates, said the home event will be one of the first of its kind in the nation and located in a new Williamson County neighborhood, Southern Preserve.

“Some of the most creative designers from a four state area are lending their time and talents to this inspirational home tour which will impact the lives of so many young people,” Carbine said. “As part of our company’s 30-year anniversary in building, rather than hosting a big party, we are pleased to be giving back to our community through the nonprofit 501(c)(3), House for Hope Foundation, and for the first time are partnering with a creative team of this caliber.”

Daryl Walny, Carbine’s vice president of operations, said almost half a million people follow the design team on Instagram and Facebook with hundreds of thousands of page views per month for their personal websites and blogs; it will be an exciting journey until the home is open for tour.

“We are interested to see the different and inspiring perspectives of these unique designers. From website blogs to social media posts, the entire project will have so many creative elements,” Walny said.

Located off Lewisburg Pike in the new Franklin neighborhood of Southern Preserve, the over 4,200 square foot home is a beautiful Modern Farmhouse with a painted brick exterior, covered porches, gourmet kitchen, four charming bedrooms, a children’s playroom and game room.

The House for Hope Foundation was begun in 1993 by Carbine, his brother, the late Denzel Carbine, and the Carbine team. Over the years, numerous subcontractors and vendors have joined Carbine in building beautiful homes with 100% of the proceeds helping area children’s charities. This will be the first time a building team has partnered with multiple interior design creatives.

The House for Hope Designer Show House will be open for tour in March. Follow the build at www.CarbineAndAssociates.com.

PR For Nashville Fountains of Musica Announcement

March 9, 2016 By Nancy McNulty

Music Row was the locale for a huge news conference announcing a major change for the iconic Alan LeQuire sculpture “Musica” with Forest Home Media partner and Fountains of Musica Foundation board member, Nancy McNulty, coordinating. In the Nashville announcement, all major media outlets were represented. More about the privately funded initiative below or visit Fountains Of Musica.

Nashville’s iconic Music Row sculpture, “Musica,” will be undergoing a major transformative addition with a series of choreographed fountains, effectively completing the work of acclaimed artist Alan LeQuire, announced in a February news conference by the nonprofit behind the project, The Fountains of Musica Foundation, in partnership with Nashville Mayor Megan Barry and Music Row representatives.

Considered to be the largest bronze figure group in the United States, plans were outlined by foundation chairman Desmond Child, Grammy-winning producer and Songwriters Hall Of Fame Inductee, who revealed the animated rendering. The fountains have been designed by world-renowned WET, a Southern California-based, award-winning design and engineering firm responsible for the world’s most iconic water and fire environments, including the Sochi Winter Olympic Games’ Olympic Cauldron and the fountain at New York City’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

Overview of the Fountains of Musica Foundation news conference announcement produced by Andrew Rozario, Steven Knapp and Mike Stryker.

“When the sculpture was unveiled in 2003, funding was not available for the fountains which are essential to the spirit of the project and for the transformation of ‘Musica’ into the landmark this city deserves,” Child said. “As with Rome’s Trevi Fountain and the fountains in Dubai, bringing water to ‘Musica’ will enhance our tourist industry status while completing an important artistic element of Nashville.”

Barry agreed stressing the landmark is a critical component of Music Row and will make it an even more popular tourist attraction.

“It is wonderful to see the artist and business communities coming together in partnership with Metro to see the original vision for ‘Musica’ come to a reality,” said Barry. “This landmark is a critical component of the Music Row neighborhood and I’m looking forward to seeing it become an even more pronounced display for residents and visitors alike to enjoy.”

The announcement of the fountains also kicks off fundraising efforts which board president, Andrée LeQuire, said will be an 18-month project.

“An important part of the project is taking care of its on-going maintenance, so as a nonprofit board we are seeking community support to build the fountains and create a maintenance fund,” LeQuire said. “The estimated total for the entire project of three fountains and on-going maintenance is $10 million and we are working in cooperation with multiple Metro departments for its installation. Generous private contributions have made the procurement of WET’s design possible. Now our new website has an easy donation process; donations big and small are essential to complete this exciting project.”

The sculpture is 38 feet in height and composed of nine dancing figures in a circular composition capturing the joy and exuberance of all the diverse and artistic genres of Music City. Industry leaders with an impressive international list of accomplishments, WET was chosen through a formal request for proposal process by the foundation to complete “Musica” by integrating its trademark fountain creations into the sculpture to achieve the board’s vision for this landmark destination.

The fountains will be comprised of a series of water-clad terraces that encircle the central sculpture and create a grade change within the site. The outermost terrace is divided into steps facing Demonbreun Street, from which flows a frothy cascade of water that connects it both symbolically and physically with its human audience. A spiraling formation of pulsing jets emerges from the terraces and radiates around the nine bronze dancers. Water glides through the air toward the outer reaches of the traffic circle, as if the muses themselves are showering their artistic spirit across Music Row to the citizens and visitors of Nashville.

In addition to the central fountains around “Musica,” Child said there will be an interactive water feature in Owen Bradley Park for kids as well as a complementary fountain built into the median divider cascading down Division toward 17th.

The privately funded the Fountains of Musica Capital Campaign will finance the build out of all three features and initial operating budgets. Bill Sullivan, foundation board chief financial officer, said, The Fountains of Musica Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to completing ‘Musica’ as a gift to the people of Nashville.”

Teresa Powell-Caldwell, senior vice president at WET said, “WET unleashes the magic of water and nature’s other elements to create shared experiences of movement, light, and emotion that reconnect us with our world, our senses, and each other. Collaborating with the board and Alan LeQuire to transform his magnificent sculpture into an evocative kinetic experience based on our expertise in this area was a rewarding artistic endeavor for WET, which we hope in turn will enrich the lives of those who experience the Fountains of Musica. We thank you all for trusting us achieve your vision in designing an experience that further evokes the creativity bursting from Nashville’s historic Music Row.”

Long-time supporter Reba McEntire weighed in on the project saying, “Music Row has always been a special place in my life and career. As entertainers, we come here with dreams to fulfill. As fans, we come to experience the place where the music of our lives comes from. Now with the Roundabout, ‘Musica’ and the new fountains, our beloved Music Row has a proper introduction!”

Child said once funding is secured, the sculpture transformation would be completed in the fourth quarter of 2017 and unveiled in a community celebration.

Home Bloggers on Periscope and Haven Conference

August 2, 2015 By Nancy McNulty

Nancy and I have just returned from Haven, the Home/Lifestyle/DIY blogger’s conference in Atlanta and we are full t0 the brim with inspiration and ideas. We made lots of new connections, met some of our blogging idols and re-connected with some treasured friends in the blogging world.

When you go to these types of conferences it is always fun to connect with like-minded social media influencers on the newest and greatest platforms for reaching your tribe. Without a doubt, Periscope is the new next big thing. We were early adopters of Periscope, jumping in with our first broadcasts on DAY ONE of its launch. You can read our recommendations on getting started on Periscope HERE.

It was amazing within days of returning from the conference to find some of our favorite home bloggers on Periscope and broadcasting daily! Our phones starting getting so many Periscope notifications from our blogging friends we had to turn off the sounds.

Here are our top 5 ways in which we use Periscope in home lifestyle industry marketing:

  1. Connect with viewers locally and internationally. It’s exhilarating to be on a project and get a shout out from Dubai and Ireland! Be sure you ask your Periscope watchers to share their city.
  2. Live event coverage. At the Haven Conference, Country Living’s Fair and a ton of other places, colleagues, friends and new influencers have joined along our broadcasts.  We either share live events or interview key participants to offer interesting content to our followers.
  3. Mini-news conferences announcing client projects.  There are a lot of interesting projects which don’t garner as much attention in a busy news environment.  We turn client news releases into a Periscope broadcast to add a voice and dimension to these news worthy moments.
  4. Capture Periscope video and repurpose to Youtube. Under Periscope settings, be sure you set your phone to autosave of all Periscope broadcasts. If you feel your interview or broadcast went well, upload to Youtube. We have created a channel within Forest Home Media just for Periscopes.
  5. Repurpose Periscope video for direct uploads to Facebook. Facebook loves original video. We load to our client Facebook pages and to Forest Home Media.

Periscope is an emerging technology.  From casual conversations and home tours with friends to utilizing as a tool for company announcements, it is a fun game-changer.  How are you using Periscope to promote your blog or business?  We’d love to hear from you!
